It has all the things that were available through this blog but in a much easier and user friendly manner.

So, if you followed this blog through an RSS feed reader, please amend your settings so that you can keep up with all the information and resources that we'll have for you. The new RSS address is catchthefireglenrothes.viviti.com/blog.

This site will not close as strange things will happen with the address! It will simply remain with this post so any visitors will be redirected.

New Resources

At long last and with big apologies for all the delays, I am now able to release 6, yes 6 new videos for you to download and use as you see fit. There will be some talk resources too but they're in a bit of a mess so I'll endeavour to get these sorted asap for you.

Anyway, back to the videos and here's the details. Click on the title to download - these will always be available in the box.net widget in the left column.

1) Better get to living
Yes, that is the title of the latest Dolly Parton hit! I kept hearing it on the radio and realised it fitted perfectly with out July theme - Break these chains. The basic sentiment is: stop wallowing in the past and get on with what you're meant to be doing! This video reflects that.

2) Breakaway
We're continuing in our up to the minute style here with a single from previous American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson. Another song urging us to break away from the past and move to the glorious future God has in store for us. Due to technical difficulties, this took ages to prepare so please enjoy it even more!

3) Can't stop talking
This is a great song from the Hillsongs Church in Australia. Used this originally outside of CtF but it has been used as a call to worship since. Its a great encouraging song leading us to speak more about the wonders of God. Not one of my best videos but still a useful resource.

4) I am trusting
This is a very simple video to Frances Ridley Havergal's song (Salvation Army Song Book: 727; Songs of Fellowship 202). This was prepared specifically for worship I led for the Peterhead SA Youth Group retreat in June but has also been used for a CtF. Its simplicity, I think, is its strength.

5) I will run to you
For June's CtF (The world for God), this video reminded us that even the smallest part of this world is created and loved by God, and that we should not only love that smallest part, but do out utmost to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit as we do His work every day.

6) Love changes everything
Finally, something different! This is a video I initially prepared for our music section practice devotions but also used it for the July CtF. The video has the powerful reminder that if we are to change anything in this world, it has to be centred on love - not just any love...but the love of God. The audio is a very low quality recording of Glenrothes SA Brass Band playing an arrangement of the Lloyd Webber classic song. It was recorded on a cheap iPod plug-in recorder at a concert we put on in Blairgowrie. I've made it as good as I can by removing most of the distortion, but, as I told the Corps musicians, the message of this video is in the words, not in the quality of the recording.

As usual, please feel free to download, use and share these videos as much as you want. They are offered free of charge and we don't even seek recognition (although a little credit when you use them would be nice!). We just ask that these are used for the continued glorification of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, in whose strength these videos have been prepared.

Break these Chains

If you can, please join us from 7pm tomorrow evening (Thursday 3rd July) at Glenrothes Salvation Army Worship & Community Centre in Caskieberran Road, Glenrothes. Catch the Fire - our monthly informal worship - is on and this month has the theme "Break these Chains". Come and hear our worship group play a few songs ... come and watch some exclusive videos ... come and hear some short thoughts from Gods Word ... come and sing a few songs of praise and worship ... come and relax in His presence ... come and simply "be" before God as we seek to Break the Chains that hold us back in worship and service of our Redeemer God.

Resources used will be uploaded to this site as soon as possible after the event. We've had a few techy problems that have held things up so we've still got to upload last months videos etc, but they will be here soon - promise!

Next month, we meet on Thursday 3 July from 7pm. Here's the flyer and once again thanks to Adam Howie for letting us use his artwork. Now, to be honest, that's about all I can tell you just now. Just felt this was the theme we're meant to be doing and have no idea where we're going to go with it. So there you go! That's the theme. Please pray for our preparations for the evening which will continue in the informal style we have become used to over the last year or so.

Following on from our look last month at the ascension of Christ and His "Great Commission", this month we take the theme "The World for God" and will look at what we are called to be doing in the world in God's Name and for His sake. We will take some time to look not just at the call to the early Church, but also how the early Salvation Army handled this call and of course, what it all means to us today.

So, if you can, join us at Glenrothes Salvation Army Worship & Community Centre on Thursday 5 June from 7pm. We'll share in song, readings, videos, fellowship, food ... and who knows what else. If you can't join us in person, please join us in prayer wherever you are. And of course, check back here after the event to download whatever resources we've used on the night.

Last Thursday we met again for CtF - this time to explore the ascension of Jesus.

The evening was opened by a visit from the Corps Singing Group, who had been invited to sing the "title song" of the evening - You Raise me Up. It was good to have them with us and we hope those who attended CtF for the first time found something that will encourage them to return in the future.

After they'd sung, we shared in sung worship together, before starting to explore the ascension. We paused to listen to "Take Broken Me" (Electralyte) and spent some valuable time in quiet reflection. As we looked more at the ascension, we shared how important it is to look at the final teaching from Jesus before he ascended - that of going into the world to share the Gospel with all people everywhere. The challenge was laid for everyone to do their bit. Its not about sitting in our comfy churches waiting for people to come to us - we need to go to where they are.
We closed with some final sung worship before tucking into the pizza that had been delivered courtesy of a well known Pizza chain beginning with D!

Not much in the way of resources this month - it was a pretty much techy free evening - just simplicity in worship. However I've uploaded the talk notes for you here which, once again, you are free to use as you see fit.

We had around 20 folk there this month which is great for this new venture. We believe CtF is of God and therefore will continue doing what he wants us to do,.

Pleased to be able to release April's resources for you now:

First is our Call to Worship which featured music, video and Scripture readings. Available for you here is the video/audio in one huge wmv file (sorry, the mpg file came back very poor quality) and the readings in a Word file. Eventually (so Chris says!), we will record the readings on to the video so its all set for you, but in the meantime, if you want to use it, you'll have to speak at the same speed I did! Reading 1 starts as soon as the video does - the rest is explained in the document. (BTW, the first bit of music you hear is courtesy of Phil Laeger, Salvationist singer/songwriter from the US.)

Next up is a song I used called "Endless Night" which comes from the Lion King Stage Show. Its such a powerful song and I've mixed in the "Footprints" poem with it as they work beautifully together. Now, due to copyright stuff I can't distribute the actual song, but if you know it and are brave enough to sing it, here's the video I used which uses a backing track that I can share with you. If you want, I'll come and sing it for you! Also, here are the words of the song and 2 versions of the Footprints poem: the original, and a new version - both of which were used and both of which are fantastic.

Finally, here's some talk resources. The main Bible text used was John 20:19-29. Here's a short talk/sermon that "investigates" the Resurrection of Jesus, and "A tale of 3 books" which tells of three instances where people have set out to disprove the resurrection by writing a book against it and ended up be becoming Christians and writing the books the other way round.

Well we met last night to worship in a relaxed informal setting and to explore the theme "Is seeing believing". The evening started with a multimedia presentation involving 2 songs (Ron Kenoly - Jesus is Alive; and Darlene Zsesch - Breathe on me) mixed with video and Scripture Readings were read at various points. These readings and images drew our minds to the resurrection appearances of Jesus. A brief introduction was then given stating that we would take the opportunity to look more at the resurrection of Christ, and how people reacted to it - especially the disciple Thomas who wouldn't believe until he saw with his own eyes. We were reminded that we lived in a time where we didn't have the opportunity to physically see Jesus, so our belief in Him must be totally based on faith.

We then shared in some sung worship using the songs "Come, now is the time to worship"; "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord" and "Our God reigns". Gods word was then further shared including John 20:19-29 and we looked at peoples attempts over the years to explain away the resurrection and the fact that none have succeeded - many infact coming to know Jesus as their personal Saviour as a result.

We sung again - Thank you for saving me - then entered a time focussed around "Footprints" - the famous 'dream' poem. Firstly, Dan sang "Endless Night" from the Lion King stage show; then Chris read a modern slightly different version of the Footprints tale; then Gemma sang "Footprints in the sand" by Leona Lewis. This was a very special time and the Holy Spirit really moved amongst us all - so much so that it was felt right to just remain in silent reflection for a while. After a suitable period of time had elapsed , Dan played through the tune of "Open our eyes Lord, we want to see Jesus" a few times before we sung/prayed it together.

After a couple more readings, thoughts, and a challenge to make a difference in the world based on the irrefutable evidence of Jesus's resurrection, it was time to close and we sung Amazing Grace with the reminder that we were once blind, but now we see.

This was a really special evening and we give God all the glory for His mighty works.

Being organised for a change, I'm pleased to give you advanced notice of next months Catch the Fire. Sung worship will return, but will continue to be mixed with discussion, devotions and (sorry, not got another 'D' word) thoughts from the Word of God. Following a prompt from the Church calendar, we will focus on the doubting of Thomas, who wouldn't believe Christ was risen until he had seen with his own eyes. So we will explore the question: "Is Seeing Believing?" and focus on how we live and worship on faith alone having not been around to meet face to face with Christ Himself.

March CtF Review

Due to unforseen circumstances, Dan was unable to make it to yesterday's Catch the Fire, so I hastily went through his material and led the evening instead. Actually, I want to take the chance to say how well Dan prepares for CtF - even though there's no real running order, there's a load of material to choose from which made my evening much easier!

Eleven of us gathered to think about the gifts God gives to us, and the response this requires from us as His people. We looked at scripture describing God's generosity, and talked a while about how this made us feel. We then moved on to talk about whether we considered ourselves generous people in terms of time, talents, or resources.

After prayer, scripture, and discussion, we moved to a freeform prayer and worship time. Dotted around the room were some pieces of paper intended to guide people in giving thanks to God, and in thinking about the UK Territory's mission partners for the year. People were invited to think about the skills of Pakistani workers, while making clay models... or to pray for the ministry of the Zambian district officer who received a new All-Terrain Vehicle last year, while we built our own cars out of recycled rubbish. Other ideas were to give thanks for the building of a new corps building in Mozambique, by building our own towers and buildings out of paper, lego and duplo, and to think about how we partner with other countries and other churches whilst putting together a jigsaw map of Glenrothes. If none of that appealed, there was always the option to simply sit in God's presence and listen to the music playing while you prayed. The image above is of prayer notes giving thanks for the various gifts God gives us.

Finally, we came together for a responsive reading and final prayer, before enjoying more fellowship over tea, coffee, and cream eclaires!

This was a departure from the normal CfT format, and it was good to see God blessing the people who came through what went on.

Catch the Fire - March

The time has come to announce next months Catch the Fire - well to be honest we're a bit late with it this month for various reasons but ... better late than never.

Anyway, on Thursday 6 March from 7pm we will gather in Glenrothes Salvation Army's worship hall for a time of informal worship and fellowship, looking at the theme "Give it up for the Lord".

For those in the Salvation Army, you will notice that this is the theme of the annual Self Denial Missionary Appeal which is running through this years Lent Season.

So, with a focus on how The Salvation Army is developing in other countries with our help, and how we can learn lessons for our own circle of ministry, we'll share in song and readings, and watch some video clips, and of course, share in fellowship with each other.

So please join us at our Caskieberran Road centre for this next chance to "Catch the Fire".

February CtF Review

"All you need is love" was the theme and right at the start, the Worship Band kicked things off singing that very song ... the Beatles classic ... and therefore setting the scene nicely for what was to come. Many gathered to share in fellowship again and to learn more from God on this wide theme. We focussed mainly on the question posed to Jesus as found in Matthew 22 when he was asked what the greatest commandment was. His response ... to love God with all your heart, and second, to love your neighbour as yourself. Love was the route and basis of everything ... the foundation for all commandments and laws ... the way God would have us live our lives. With various songs and readings helping us on the way, we learned more of this Christian foundation and even linked things firmly to the ministry of The Salvation Army, realising that our tag line ... heart to God and hand to man ... fitted perfectly with Jesus' call.

We had a really good night of worship and learning and fellowship. Resources will appear here shortly.

Our next gathering is on March 6th but the details of this are yet to be confirmed... watch this space....

February CtF Preview

Thursday 7 February. Thats the date of the next Catch the Fire and just one week before supposedly the most romantic day of the year, we'll take a delve into the Bibles view of love - both human and divine. We'll especially look at Jesus' comments on the greatest commandment question ... His reponse: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind" and second to that "Love your neighbour as yourself". (Matthew 22:37,38)

So join us if you can for an evening or worship, Word and prayer focussed firmly on the love of God.

January CtF Review

Thanks to 2 inches of snow falling in 90 minutes, the roads got a bit slippy around Glenrothes so a lot of people weren't happy to venture out - which was probably a wise idea as Glenrothes SA Worship and Community Centre is up a hill! Anyway, the few that braved it enjoyed a really relaxed time of individual prayer with a nice selection of music playing in the background; quotes on prayer scrolling in the screens; a reading area; and a couple of focus areas allowing us to pray for oursleves, The Salvation Army, and the world. We were planning to do some prayer walking but this had to be put on hold too.

But all was not in vain. The prayer focus areas have remained on display in the main worship hall and at some point soon, we'll re-run the prayer night. Those who gathered on this night felt the benefit of it and faithful prayers were offered.

We'll let you know when the prayer night gets re-run so you can join in either in person, or from a distance. Thanks for all those who prayed just where they were last Thursday.

January's Catch the Fire

Come and join us on Thursday this week for a Catch the Fire night of prayer. From 7pm, there will be opportunity to pray at various "prayer stations" around the worship hall, plus also a chance to prayer walk around the local area. No band, no worship, just prayer. Music and images will roll all evening. This is the chance to start 2008 as you mean to - in communion with God.

December CtF Review

Well, somewhat belatedly, here's a review of December's Catch the Fire.

What a fantastic night we had. Although slightly confused in our minds as we were gathering on a Monday evening and at a later time, there was a really good feeling as we set up the equipment ready for worship. There was a real sense among us that all our efforts over the previous weeks in the run up to Christmas, had led us to this point - a chance to relax in an informal setting and praise God.

As well as the change of day and time, there was also a change in that we had a running order - something we don't normally have at all. I did this as there was a lot of stuff to get through and a lot of it was linked so I didn't want to miss things. As it was, God took over anyway and we still skipped around the order as he desired - so no more running orders for us!

By 8pm, around 45 people had gathered and about 60% of them were not Corps folk which is great because Catch the Fire is designed both as an informal escape for Corps members and also another entry point to the Church for non-members. A number of people were family members of the Youth Club worship band and it was great to see some of them returning to CtF partly to support their children, and also because they enjoyed the fellowship last time.

We got started about 8:15 with a couple of readings including one by Rob Lacey entitled "The Immaculate Mis-conception" which draws together Bible, Fairy and Pantomime stories into one humorous tale. (You can find it in his book "The Liberator"). Then, after a video using the carol "Who is He" (courtesy of Hythe Salvation Army), we had a time of Praise and Worship using the songs "Praise Him you heavens", "Beautiful One", and "These are the days of Elijah". We then took some time to look at the events of the Christmas Narrative through the eyes of Mary and Joseph before taking a more humorous look at Christmas thanks to a DVD of J.John. We listened to a couple of readings and shared some thoughts on Christmas and how it can still be real to us in 2007, then worshipped some more using "Light of the World" and "King of Kings".

Before we knew it, 90 minutes had passed and it was right to finish. We then shared in food and fellowship for a good while afterwards before tidying up ready for the watchnight service that would follow. Everyone really seemed to enjoy the time shared and really took time to discover real Peace this Christmas.

Coming Events

A couple of adverts for you...

Due to Christmas Carol playing commitments, the first Thursday in December is taken so we're picking "Catch the Fire" up and moving it towards the end of the month. It is now happening on Christmas Eve - Monday 24 December - and is even at a different time - 8pm. Confused? Well join the club!

In an effort to ease the confusion, we invite you to find real peace ... peace only found in Jesus. We'll have the usual mix of sung worship, prayer, videos, Bible readings and thoughts and all will be centred around 'peace' ... real peace. Our worship will be followed by fellowship over food and drink when we can just relax in each others company.

So please join us if you can for a Christmas Eve to remember. The flyer shown below is available for download through a link to the left of the screen. Please share this around and display it as appropriate ... thanks.

Secondly, I know it seems ages away ... but January's Catch the Fire will follow in quick succession after December's, because it will return to the usual first Thursday in the month at 7pm ... which in this case is Thursday 3 January 2008.

As this is right at the beginning of the year, we feel it is right to spend some quality time in prayer... so that will be our focus. The set up for the evening will be slightly different and will even include the chance to step out of the hall and undertake some prayer-walking in the area. Don't worry about New Year Resolutions that you won't keep .... resolve to spend some quality time in prayer and being that resolution from 7pm on January 3rd.

November review

We met last night for Novembers Catch the Fire, looking at the theme "You are the Light". We again had a number of first-timers join us which is great and they joined those returning from previous CtFs. This time also saw the return of the still un-named Youth Club Worship Band (who incidentally have been invited to play at The Salvation Army East Scotland Division New Year Meetings which is fantastic. A real encouragement to them and a real boost to us who have the pleasure of working with them.)

Anyway, back to last night. Texts used included:

John 1 (John prepared the way for the Light of the World)
Matthew 5 (Jesus declares us to be the light of the world)

November's Catch the Fire

Because we had the October CtF a bit later than normal, this one is coming round quick! So, next Thursday we meet up again for our monthly time of informal worship.

This time its fallen nicely for us in order to get a good hook into our theme. We meet the day after Halloween - a time that has become associated with the darker things of this world. And so this gives us the perfect opportunity to push the darkness away and focus on the true light - Jesus Christ himself. November 1st is also All Saints Day - a day to remember the saints of this world - those who have truly lived in the Light of God.

So it all fits in nicely! With the help of songs, videos, Bible Readings and thoughts, we will unitedly acknowledge Jesus as the Light of the World. Join us from 7pm on Nov 1st if you can.

October review

24 hours after I left Church after clearing up from Catch the Fire and I'm still buzzing with excitement. What a fantastic night we had. Its not about numbers but we were still so pleased to see our biggest turn out yet. Plus, as promised, it was the first public outing of our newly formed Youth Club worship band. Some of their family members had come to support too. And the band did so well accompanying some of the songs as well as doing some numbers on their own.

The evening was mainly filled with worship - following the theme "Come let us sing for joy to the Lord" (Psalm 95). Some of the songs were new, some were already known, but the opportunity was given to worship either by singing or simply listening and following the words - both acceptable forms of worship of our Creator God.

After an hour of worship mixed with a few short thoughts and Bible Readings, we moved into a time of fellowship over snacks and drinks where there was a really good feeling.

Sadly due to copyright, we cannot podcast anything from the evening. There were just a few Bible Readings in between the songs so not much point in putting them on. When I find the piece of paper with scribbled notes about what readings to use I'll let you know what readings we used!!! What I can assure you of, having listened to my iPod recording and watching the camcorder version, is that the new band sounded really good - we are so Biblically proud of this exciting group of young people ... please continue to hold them in your prayers.

October CtF

October's Catch the Fire moves to the second Thursday of the month for one month only for various logistical reasons. So, on 11 October, we will meet to "sing for joy to the Lord". Basically, it will be one long praise session with a chance to sing some favourite songs plus a couple of new ones.

One special feature of the night will be the first public outing for Glenrothes Salvation Army's Youth Club worship group. With the help of a grant, we bought some guitars, drums and mics for the Youth Club and, after a number of them went to Summer School, we have formed them into a worship group at their request. They will be playing a couple of prepared items plus accompanying some of the songs too.

So, if you're able to, please join us on Thursday 11 October from 7pm. Here's the flyer.

Review of September CtF

What a fantastic evening we had. God was really in control of the evening. Our normal group was added to by some Youth Club members, together with friends from Belshill and Edinburgh. Will write a full review later this weekend. Files used on the evening will shortly be available through the box.net link. I'll explain what's what later too!

Just quickly add for now that the next Catch the Fire will move to the second thursday for one month only. So 11 October we'll regroup under the theme "Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord". More on this later too.

For various reasons, the Catch the Fire scheduled for Thursday 2 August has been cancelled. CtF will return on Thursday 6 September with the theme planned for the August evening, namely "Fight the Good Fight". We wil take time then to look at the best way Jesus wants us to deal with conflict and the resources available to us. I'll put a reminder on nearer the time but in the meantime, have a great rest of summer - thats if summer ever appears!!!

Two new homegrown songs were also used.

The first, "I come as I am" was written by me (Daniel) at a holiness study conference and has been arranged here for 4 parts. Please feel free to use as you see fit.

Be holy for I am holy

Catch the Fire returned last night and went ok. Those present thought it went better than I did so thats the main thing. To be honest, I had so much stuff on holiness that it was very difficult to keep the informal feel to things and still get over as much info as possible without frying everyone's brains completely. But we enjoyed being relaxed in God's presence and learned a great deal about the call to Holiness that is upon all our lives.

Resources will appear here shortly including the powerpoint slides, talks podcast and also the music and midi file for two brand new songs that were featured last night. More on all that as soon as possible.

The next Catch the Fire is on Thursday 2 April at 7pm. The theme is "Fight the good Fight".

Last night, Catch the Fire seemed to go very well and as we read and learned about the Holy Spirit, we were in no doubt that the same Holy Spirit was with us and protecting us during our time of sharing in worship together. Much had been thrown at us by Satan beforehand but, praise to God, we stood above it all and won the victory. More will be shared with you in due course but as a new treat for you (I use that word loosely), you can now get a podcast of the talks and readings from Catch the Fire. Its Catch the Fire tonight! We'll be looking at the work of the Holy Spirit in Scripture and today. It starts at 7pm at Glenrothes Salvation Army worship and community centre in Caskieberran Road, Glenrothes and you will be most welcome. Catch the Fire returns a week on Thursday. This time we will be furthering a look at the Holy Spirit kind of building on what was looked at in Sunday worship today being Pentecost Sunday. For CtF, we won't just be looking at the day of Pentecost as recorded in Acts 2, but on the work of the Holy Spirit through the whole of Scripture and naturally on to today as well.

As usual, there will be sung worship, visual focus, Bible insight and so much more.

So, if you're free, don't hesitate to come along to Glenrothes Salvation Army Worship and Community Centre on Thursday 7 June from 7pm. You will be most welcome.

Resources from May CtF

One of the things we want to do through this blog is to share resources with you for general use. Various things will get shared including songs used, Bible Texts studied and other visuals etc that we may have used.

In our May meeting, the theme was "waiting" and we focussed on many different forms of waiting in terms of the Christian life. So, here's some of the files from May's meeting.

In addition, the main Bible focus was on Isaiah 40 particularly verse 31 which says

"those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."

We discussed the fact that to wait is also to trust hence the link to the centre verse of the Bible (see above) and also the importance to literally wait on God as if He was a customer in a restaurant and we are the staff.

One other item used will be shared at a later date. This was a song I wrote called "Waiting to be Found". Visuals were used to back up this song about Jesus being right amongst us and desperately waiting to be found. It will be shared later, including the sheet music, because I need to write it out first!
